What I believe
Conservatism is many things to many people. It encompasses a wide range of views, depending on the context of how it's used. In the days of our country's founding, Conservatism could be thought of the efforts to preserve our political and socio-economic philosophy. In modern times, Conservatism could be potentially misconstrued to mean preservation of the status quo, or a belief in a specific fundamental Christian ideology. In these days of progressive social policies and programs, conservatism is really an effort to return to the socio-economic philosophies of our Founding Fathers. Does that mean that we should all turn in our iPads for pitchforks? Not at all. The philosophy is timeless - it transcends the ages and is predicated on the idea that personal liberty is the most important consideration in the development of policies and legislation by our Federal Government.
